Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect behind some of the most iconic looks worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, including the pastel suits that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "their hit Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

Price's death comes shortly after he presented his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Pioneering Career

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he began designing menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-fly pants that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A key creative partner of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price designed the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his expert craftsmanship in crafting body-hugging looks made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.

In the 1990s, he commenced designing ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including several ensembles for her American tour after assuming the title.

With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in partnership with the design house 16Arlington.
