Jurgen Klopp says a return to lead Liverpool is conceivable.
Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, remarked that a future comeback remains a possibility. The 58-year-old, post a game-changing near-decade reign that included Champions League success and ending the club's long wait for three decades, has since taken on roles as head of global soccer for Red Bull and providing guidance with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
Liverpool won the league title in the previous campaign, though countless followers holding him in high esteem would welcome the possibility that he may eventually return. During an extensive chat, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I said I will never coach any other side within the country. Therefore in case it's my former club...absolutely. It's plausible.”
“Being 58, which suggests I might decide later on, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, no such pressure exists. I'll simply watch how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Questioned regarding the specific conditions would have to unfold to tempt his return to management, he revealed he was not instantly drawn toward coming back. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he commented. “No longing for management; I don’t miss standing during downpours through long matches; I'm glad to skip press conferences multiple times weekly or constant media duties a week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room per se, however, dining out alongside the squad having a nice chat, that’s nice. With many victories so there was often great spirits in the building. I can still hear the captain's chuckle ringing in my ears for example.”
Praise for His Successor
He spoke highly regarding Arne Slot, acknowledging his role due to the changes which secured the championship in the previous season. They've been defeated a string of losses in every contest following significant transfers, though he denied the idea it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker like Florian Wirtz, you will all eat your words with negative comments. An outstanding player. The French striker, superb talent. They have a strong thoughtfully assembled roster. You don’t have to worry regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of Jota, a 2020 acquisition while in charge, and its impact on Liverpool. Jota lost his life in a road accident together with his sibling recently.
“Can you substitute a person like him? This isn't just regarding his footballing ability, it's his character. It's hard to picture the squad missing him. Putting it into words is tough about it. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad also. No one within the club might employ it for poor performances yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Coping with it emotionally is not easy. Unbearable.”
