Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Support After PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was understandable for concerns to be raised about his position after another heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the team's worst run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got a lot of support from above,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to change things and secure a win of course but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it's expected that people question you.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal discussions I sense the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Reaction
The manager expressed regret over known weaknesses from his squad in their European defeat, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to reflect. I’m past feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a spell of this nature with performances like these.”
He concluded, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until that badge is taken away, we'll continue to battle.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it needs to change.”
