The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Thriller Merging Survival Horror with Among Us Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several intriguing upcoming titles, but one especially has captured attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience appears to blend the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive game where a girl containing multiple human souls inside her needs to flee from a maze of the mind," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of teenage years. Within her reside four separate souls, each with unique anxieties and drives. These souls can take over spontaneously, unleashing their deep-seated terrors upon her suddenly.

Based on showcased footage, much of the action unfolds within a eerie medical facility, though additional clips depict the protagonist exploring a abandoned church.

A World of Personal Horror

"What makes you fearful of? What makes you uncomfortable?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. Authority figures. Things that seem trivial to others can activate a deep instinct inside us. This game explores that concept — anxieties that are unique to each person."

The central gameplay loop involves controlling whichever soul emerges at any given moment. However, these souls will switch against your will as you play. While exploring, every persona's anxieties become exaggerated and assault the girl in succession. When the soul changes, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Fatal Choice

Initially, UN:Me shares noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is filled with orderlies all sporting the identical visage, with disturbingly broad smiles. Patients in the lobby have large blooms where their heads are. Flowers are a recurring element, juxtaposing organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular twist. Players must determine which of the four entities haunting the protagonist is the "real" one. "All four souls asserts that the body is rightfully them," explains a developer. "During the game, you must determine who is authentic."

Once players believes a soul is fake, they are forced to destroy it. However, because each soul can lie or hide the truth, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the real [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The final entity remaining might be a fraud. In any case, your choices are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed launch window, but it is can be wishlist on digital storefronts.
