The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Chose the Wrong Popular RPG Show Song

This latest animated series, the most recent animated adventure from the beloved role-playing group, unveiled a new opening credits. It features our favorite group of outcasts, misfits, and rogues fighting hard and making their mark, while teasing at several agonizing backstories for key figures including the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, the character Fjord.

All in all, the intro appears amazing. However, I felt that an element was missing in the music selection.

The intro uses "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional song composed by artist Colm McGuinness. It's a track from the official score of the same name, the second release released by the production company's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful sentimental option, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its presence.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's intro fails to capture the hype and excitement that was part of the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit for me when it was first revealed in 2015, and it only got better when cast member the performer wrote words to the melody for the series' animated intro in the later year.

Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the track was memorable and fun. At the time, I hadn't even watched the second campaign at that point, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. It's a song that excites you before you dive into an installment of fantasy hijinks.

The show's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the same chords for me. It's a grand composition, but from what I know of the group, I feel that its tone is a little off.

Naturally, the creators has already said that the series will have some surprises and differences from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its intro seems to be among these.

This animated adventure will be available to watch on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait until then, or wish to prepare to get to know the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are accessible on Spotify and the video site.
